Introduction

GUNZ is a blockchain network created by Gunzilla Games, a video game company known for its battle royale game Off The Grid. Their goal is to bring blockchain technology into gaming in a way that’s easy for players and developers to use.

What Is GUNZ?

GUNZ is a blockchain ecosystem specifically designed for gaming. The project was initially created to support the player-based economy of Gunzilla’s flagship game, Off The Grid (OTG). However, it later developed into a full-featured platform that provides blockchain-native infrastructure for modern game development.

Through the use of blockchain and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), GUNZ allows players to truly own their in-game items. It also gives them the opportunity to earn rewards for renting their assets.

What Can GUNZ Offer?

For players:

  • True ownership: Players can fully own and trade their in-game assets.

  • Optional blockchain interaction: Those who prefer a traditional gaming experience can play without engaging in blockchain mechanics.

  • Security and transparency: Blockchain technology ensures that in-game transactions are verifiable and secure.

For developers:

  • Easy integration: GUNZ offers developer-friendly tools that simplify blockchain implementation.

  • Scalability: The Avalanche-based architecture ensures fast transactions and low fees.

  • Monetization: Game studios can explore new revenue opportunities by integrating NFT-based economies into their projects.

How GUNZ Works

GUNZ operates as a decentralized gaming ecosystem with many interesting features. Let’s take a closer look.

Blockchain technology

GUNZ is a standalone Layer 1 (L1) blockchain that operates as a subnet within the Avalanche ecosystem. As a subnet, GUNZ leverages some of Avalanche’s core features and infrastructure to achieve high throughput and low latency. Still, GUNZ works independently with its own group of validators.

The GUNZ blockchain is fully compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and Solidity-based smart contracts.

GunzScan is a dedicated blockchain explorer created for the GUNZ ecosystem. Similar to Etherscan, GunzScan can offer users information about transactions, blocks, tokens, and other blockchain data.

Game integration

The first game to utilize GUNZ is Off The Grid, a free-to-play battle royale shooter. The game incorporates blockchain mechanics in a way that does not disrupt the core gaming experience. Players who wish to engage with blockchain elements can collect and trade NFTs, while those who prefer a traditional gaming experience can play without interacting with crypto assets.

In-game assets and NFTs

GUNZ enables the creation of in-game assets as NFTs. Players can earn, buy, or trade these assets on the GUNZ marketplace. One unique feature in Off The Grid is the presence of loot boxes called HEXes

Players can collect HEXes during matches and decode (open) them to create NFTs. These NFTs can then be traded, used, or transferred across compatible games. The process of decoding HEXes involves the work of validators who hold Validator NFTs.

Validator NFTs

You can think of Validator NFTs as software nodes responsible for minting in-game items on the GUNZ network. According to the official website, there are five types of Validator NFTs, each with a different power level, commission rate for resales, and hash power. Higher-rarity NFTs have better chances of being selected for a decoding transaction.

These NFTs can generate two types of rewards. The first comes from decoding HEXes. When a player decodes a HEX, a Validator NFT will be selected to handle the process and mint a new in-game item. The GUN fees paid by the player are then rewarded to the NFT owner while some GUN tokens are burned.

The second type of reward comes from resale commissions, meaning that Validator NFT owners can get a share of the commissions every time the minted items are traded on the GUNZ marketplace.

Developer tools

GUNZ provides a suite of tools to help game developers integrate blockchain into their projects. These tools may include APIs for creating tokens and NFTs, a blockchain scanner for tracking transactions, a mobile app for iOS and Android, a marketplace for trading assets, and more.

Such developer tools make it easier for developers to incorporate blockchain technology into their games without requiring expertise in smart contract development.

The GUN Token

GUN is the native cryptocurrency of the GUNZ ecosystem. It serves as the primary currency for transactions and gas fees within the network. It also supports NFTs, allowing players to own in-game items that can be traded or used in multiple games.

GUNZ on Binance HODLer Airdrops

On March 27, 2025, Binance announced GUNZ (GUN) as the 66th project on Binance Launchpool. Users who locked their BNB, FDUSD, and USDC during the farming period are eligible to receive GUN airdrops. A total of 400 million GUN were allocated to the program.

After the airdrop, GUN was listed on Binance with the Seed Tag applied, allowing for trading against the USDT, BNB, FDUSD, and TRY pairs.

Closing Thoughts

GUNZ is a blockchain gaming platform designed to provide a player-friendly and developer-friendly ecosystem. By integrating NFTs, cryptocurrency transactions, and decentralized infrastructure, GUNZ offers new possibilities for game developers while giving players more control over their in-game assets.

While the project certainly has great potential, the gaming space is highly competitive, so its long-term success will depend on effective execution and market adoption.
